'' This qualification will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge to plan and conduct a fitness program and a group exercise class. You will learn about the role of fitness instructors, exercise science and gain an overview of work in the industry. You will learn skills in effective communication, administration and organisation. You will also learn how to analyse risk, respond to emergency situations and maintain equipment. As part of this qualification you will undertake a supervised work placement where you will be able to apply the skills and knowledge you have learned.
This qualification provides training for persons wishing to pursue a career in the fitness industry. It covers the practical skills and knowledge to plan and conduct a fitness program and a group exercise class. Students learn about the role of fitness instructors, exercise science and gain an overview of work in the industry and learn skills in effective communication, administration and organisation, including how to analyse risk, respond to emergency situations and maintain equipment. Students apply the skills and knowledge leant by undertake a supervised work placement and are mentored by a number of leading fitness and recreation centers throughout the Fremantle and Peel region.
Fremantle Campus delivers the Gym Instruction electives Students study Anatomy, Coaching and Instruction, basic computer skills, fitness testing, program design and delivery, resistance training techniques, OHS in the workplace, common workplace practices and problems, and sports first aid. Successful completion of this qualification provides the opportunity to become a registered fitness instructor.
Senior First Aid Certificates will be available within the course if necessary.
