Course Description:
'' This qualification will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge to assist in caring for the social, emotional, physical and educational needs of children (aged 5-12) in a range of out of school care settings. You will learn how to care for, play with and foster the development of children. You will also learn about the important role of the family, working within legal requirements, ensuring children’s health and safety, first aid and working with children at risk. As part of this qualification you will undertake a supervised work placement where you will be able to apply the skills and knowledge you have learned.
At Challenger TAFE, we have established a qualification plan that not only allows students to achieve a S282 Certificate IV in Out of School Hours Care CHC40402, but also embeds S276 Certificate III in Children’s Services CCH30402.
The Certificate IV qualification aims to develop your sense of professionalism, so you can act as an advocate and role model for children and families. The qualification also aims to encourage a commitment to life-long education, personal and professional development and to train competent child care professionals who:
- are able to provide quality care for children aged 0 to 5 years and 6 to 12 years (and their families) in a range of children’s services settings;
- are committed to the child care profession and can liaise with families, the community, colleagues and other professionals in order to improve the profile and quality of children’s services;
- act as role models and resources for children, their families and children’s services.
