Course Description:
'' This course is designed to provide participants with formalized training in Telehandler operation. Telehandlers are becoming increasingly popular on construction and mine sites due to their flexibility and usefulness. Many operators have gained experience by just “having a go� Completion of this course will provide a recognized qualification with participants being able to conduct pre-start and pre-operational checks; recognize danger areas; understand load charts; use attachments and how to maneouver a Telehandler correctly and safely through all areas of operation.
Important: As part of the new National Licensing System which commences on 1 October 2007, Telehandlers or Multi-purpose Tool Carriers do not fall under the forklift truck classification.
High Risk Licenses are required if:
a) The Telehandler is used with a boom and/or jib and is greater than 3 tonnes. A CN license is required.
b) An elevated work platform with controls in the basket is attached on a boom of over 11 m in length. An WP license is required.
The person who employs operators of multipurpose machines, or has control of the workplace where multipurpose machines are operated, has duties under the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1984. These duties include providing information, instruction, training and supervision of Telehandler operators so they are not exposed to hazards. This course fulfills that duty both as an employee and employer.
Pre requisite There are no pre requisites.
Course Content The Telehandler training plan is based on the Unit of Competencies within the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF):
UEPOPS201A - Comply with occupational health and safety policy and procedures.
UEPOPS223A - Shift and transfer materials using a telescopic materials handler �loader.
Legislation in the Workplace - O.S.H. Acts and Regulations; Mines Safety Inspection Act and Regulations; [NOHSC 7019 (1992)] National Guidelines for Occupational Health and Safety Competency Standards for the Operation of Load Shifting Equipment and other types of specified equipment; safety issues and enterprise/site requirements. Plan Work - Site requirements and rules; site hazard identification; emergency procedures; priorities; machine requirements/work identified and verified from job specifications; site plans. Operate Machinery - Main components identified; pre-start and pre-operational checks; capabilities and limitations; engineering principles; centre of gravity; operational efficiency determined by ground and weather characteristics; operated in a safe manner. Load Chart �Understanding load charts; identifying correct load chart; use of different attachments; load centre distances. Practical Training - Loads shifted/transferred in accordance with job requirements in a safe manner; stacking and unstacking; preparing for road use and transport.
Certification Darwin & Western Australia An Australian Skills Training Pty Ltd Statement of Attainment will be issued to competent participants. An AST card in Telehandler Operation will also be issued.
International On successful completion of this course, candidates will be issued with an Australian Skills Training Ltd Certificate of Competency and card.
Duration 8 hours/1 day
Maximum Participants 8 persons.
