Course Description:
'' This course is designed to give participants the necessary skills to carry out advanced welding using the SMAW process to a standard consistent with AS1554 SP. The training also covers basic welding knowledge including, weldability of steels, welding symbols, testing of welded components, and formulation of weld procedures.
Pre requisite
Previous basic SMAW welding experience is a pre-requisite for this course.
Course Content
The training plan is based on a Unit of Competency from the Metals Engineering Training Package within the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF):
MEM5.16AB �Perform Advanced Welding using Manual Metal Arc Welding process
Upon successful completion of this training the participant should be competent to:
�Prepare materials for welding
�Select welding machine settings and electrodes
�Carry out advanced SMAW �3G position (vertical butt weld) and 4G position (overhead butt weld)
�Inspect for and correct defects
�Maintain weld records

Successful candidates will be issued with an Australian Skills Training Certificate of Competency.

80 hours over 10 days.
