'' Join our unique program and develop a broad set of skills to create print, web and presentations for business communications. Build the expertise you need to manage todays publishing production workflow as you explore the workings of software programs from Photoshop to PowerPoint, InDesign to Acrobat.
Who should take Digital Publishing? » Anyone interested in gaining hands-on experience in the production of newsletters, brochures, graphics, presentations, web sites and PDFs » Business, academic or other professionals who manage print or web publishing and outsourcing » Communications and marketing professionals who need to expand technical skill sets » Artists, designers and graduate students looking for a technical grounding in professional print and web applications
Students should have a minimum of one year computer experience.
What time commitment is involved? CONTINUING EDUCATION PROGRAM » 28 weeks part time, two nights a week » 4 hours class time each evening; » 3 hours of instructor led training 1 hour of supervised lab time » Supervised lab time available on weekends » Maximum enrollment is 12 participants
What will I learn? » Print media basics & offset printing theory » Create basic page layouts and graphics using Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign » File output, collection and preparation » Prepare files, graphics, text and images for use across different print & web projects » Convert between file formats » Scanning, imaging, file size and resolution » Colour models and file compression » Create and edit PDFs for web and print » Web theory and basic HTML » Web site authoring, editing and maintenance » Create graphics and images for the web » Upload and edit web sites on a server » Create professional presentation graphics » Build better PowerPoint presentations What software will I learn? Students use Macintosh computers and use the following applications:
