'' Transqual has considerable experience in delivering training in Personal Fatigue Management. We are fully accredited to deliver the Transitional Fatigue Management Scheme training for companies wishing to enter the optional Transitional Fatigue Management Scheme.
Fatigue is one of the most serious occupational hazards in the Transport industry. Driver fatigue is a contributing factor in up to 60% of crashes involving commercial vehicles. Significant commercial pressures are placed on operators to exceed safe driving limits.
In an attempt to control the problem, the governments have previously set out strict maximum times to be driven and the requirement to record the driving using log books. These requirements have previously been very inflexible and, at times, uneconomical for some companies to comply with.
A new safety initiative in the industry helps address the causes of driver fatigue and offers an increase in flexibility of driving hours for participants. The Transitional Fatigue Management Scheme (TFMS) is an optional scheme for employers and drivers to self-manage the fatigue problem rather than simply complying with maximum times.
To become TFMS accredited, the following conditions apply:
Drivers will be subject to health checks;
Drivers must attend an accredited training course in managing fatigue;
Employers must implement audible processes relating to fatigue management, training, driver health and rostering/ scheduling.
Participants must be registered in the scheme by the relevent state authority;
Drivers must carry an endorsed Driver Certification Manual (DCM)
