Course Description
System Administration of Mac OS X Clients is a five-day course that provides students with the skills, tools, and knowledge to implement, integrate, and maintain Mac OS X in a multiplatform environment. Students will learn how to implement and integrate solutions that are based on or include Mac OS X, and take into account systems using Windows and UNIX.
A combination of lecture and hands-on case study exercises provide practical real- world experience.
Who should attend? This class is for system administrators and IT professionals who are responsible for implementing, integrating, or maintaining Mac OS X workstations in a multiplatform environment comprised of Mac OS X, Mac OS X Server, Windows, or UNIX operating systems.
Prerequisites
Apple Certified Technical Coordinator (ACTC) certification or equivalent knowledge
How to set up and configure individual Mac OS X workstations to access network-based services
Use Mac OS X Server to provide network-based services to a collection of individual workstations
Manage multiple Mac OS X users and workstations using Mac OS X Server Network and Internet topical knowledge
Basic network planning and analysis (bandwidth impact, network devices, cabling requirements) Define the purpose/function/use of the following protocols/services: TCP, IP, UDP Internet client applications (Web, FTP, Telnet/ SSH, email) FTP, TFTP, HTTP, HTTPS, TELNET, ARP Mail system protocols and services (SMTP, POP3, IMAP, DNS) Remote Access protocols (PPP, PPPoE) Virtual Private Networks NetBIOS and WINS TCP/IP basics Understand IP address, subnet masks, ports, and protocols Uses of DHCP vs. static IP Server basics Understand HTML, CGI, SQL, Scripting Describe MIME types and their use as it relates to web servers Describe server caching and proxy caching Familiarity with the following command-line tools: ping ifconfig traceroute arp netstat nslookup These prerequisites can be met by studying the same training courses or technical books that will prepare you to take the CompTIA Network+ and i-Net+ exams. By studying such material, you will be well-positioned to earn Network+ and i-Net+ certification in addition to qualifying for entrance to the Apple ACSA certification courses.
