'' This studio-based course emphasises the acquisition of skills, knowledge and aesthetics relevant to the contemporary art/craft/design industry. Quality products are essential supplies for gallery owners, tourist centre venues and various other businesses throughout Tasmania, Australia and overseas. This course aims to encourage students to produce original quality goods for these and other identified markets and to actively contribute to the growth of the arts community in Tasmania.
Who should enrol in this qualification?
New employment opportunities are emerging for visual artists in Tasmania in areas outside traditional studio-based work and teaching. With the growth of technology, visual artists, exhibitions and events, craftspeople and designers are entering technologically based areas where these skills are also being applied to "new media" areas such as digital imaging, art museum and gallery management, heritage interpretation, design in industry, cultural diplomacy, art therapy, and curatorial work. The successful application of these skills requires a combination of creative, business/administration and occupation-specific skills.
Do I need any skills?
Applicants will need to demonstrate an appropriate level of creative ability to enable successful completion of the program. The applicants may be asked to attend an interview and submit a portfolio of their work.
Entry Qualifications
Successful completion of Certificate IV in Visual Arts & Contemporary Craft
OR Equivalent qualification
OR Recognition of Current Competencies from relevant work experience.
