Course Description:
'' This course provides the knowledge and practical skills needed to provide chairside assistance for dental practitioners and other administrative reception duties that are normally carried out in a dental practice. Courses are offered at Certificate III entry level only.
The course involves a total of 12 months concurrent on-the-job practical experience in a dental practice whilst undertaking a study program provided by TAFE Tasmania. The flexible delivery allows you to join the course at any time of year and manage your own learning process, both the employer and TAFE Tasmania will provide training.
The study program includes; on-line training and assessment, planned training sessions, learning packages, learning support, on-the-job and off-the-job assessment and recognition of existing skills. If you have current or recent experience as a Dental Assistant but do not have a qualification you can apply for Recognition.
Who should enrol in this qualification?
To enrol in this qualification you must be employed in a dental practice OR have had recent, relevant experience as a Dental Assistant. It is for:
People who are employed in the role of a Dental Assistant who wish to gain a nationally recognised qualification and the skills required to assist a Dentist, Dental Hygienist or Dental Therapist in their work with patients as well as providing skills to work with practice administration .
People who have had prior training or experience as a Dental Assistant and would like to have their skills recognised.
People who are employed in a Dental Office and would like to pursue a further career path in Dentistry eg. Dental Hygiene or Dental Therapy. Completion of this course and the relevant work experience will contribute to successful application in these courses.
