'' The Course in Interpreting Preparatory, Paraprofessional Level aims to provide students proficient in English and a second language with training in interpreting techniques, intercultural communication skills and knowledge of the professional practices and ethics of interpreting as a profession. The course enables the student to gain and develop relevant skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary to pass the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) interpreting test at the Paraprofessional level and familiarise participants with NAATI test requirements and procedures.
COURSE CONTENT AND ASSESSMENT The course assists in the development of the following key competencies: â™?Collecting, analysing and organising ideas and information. â™?Expressing ideas and information. â™?Planning and organising activities. â™?Working with others and in teams. â™?Developing cultural understanding. Examples of topics covered in the individual Unit areas include: â™?interpreting processes and practices; â™?ethics and role of the interpreter; â™?cross-cultural comparisons; â™?knowledge of format and requirements of NAATI test at the Paraprofessional level; â™?role plays and simulation exercises; â™?workshops. On-going formal and informal assessment is conducted in each Unit/Module of the course. ...''
