It incorporates theoretical critique of juvenile justice and basic practical skills training in working with young people on juvenile justice orders. It considers the legal processes that govern the juvenile justice system in Victoria, the nexus between juvenile justice and child protection. Topics: The historical context for contemporary juvenile justice issues, the evolution of the justice model; the theoretical and practice nexus related to juvenile delinquency; relevant legislation and sentencing principles affecting young people in the JJ system; hierarchy of sentencing; prevention and diversionary strategies.
