'' The Design Studies Series (DSS) is for people wishing to develop their skills and understanding of design, and experience the satisfaction of learning how to apply effective design. It is suitable for people with little or no previous experience as well as those unable to study during the day. This course offers an introductory level of study to the fundamentals of graphic design. It is not a computer course and the focus is on understanding design through manual projects. This unit explores the underlying principles and elements that are the foundation of design. Students gain an understanding of historical influences and contemporary trends and apply that to strategies around layout, composition and presentation. Participants will work with a variety of manual media; including collage, gouache and pencil to produce outcomes that may include; magazine pages, book covers, editorial illustrations, promotional work ? logos and corporate Identity. It is not a computer course and the focus is on understanding design through manual projects
