Maybe you’ve sold your controversial documentary to an educational distributor but it’s not reaching anyone beyond college campuses. Or perhaps you’ve broadcast your video on public television but you’re not sure if it’s making a difference. The answer lies in national grassroots self-distribution. Traditional distribution outlets, such as television and festival screenings, are critical. But grassroots distribution of social issue and activist documentaries to art theaters, college campuses, community centers and during activist events is a powerful way to get films out to the broader public, not just to the typical documentary viewer or to the already converted. Issues covered in this class include defining your goals for your piece, planning your tour, booking your film or video, publicity, money, and accessing resources. ...''
