Course Description:

'' This course will help prepare students to be able to shoot a range of work, in particular drama and documentary, at a professional level. Interaction with Digital Media is an integral part of the course.

By the end of this course students will have had the opportunity to:

Shoot on Super 16mm, 35mm and digital video
Gain experience working with Digital Media, as relevant to the work of the Cinematographer
Shoot several exercises and projects with students from other disciplines.
Gain an advanced understanding of the various types of film stocks and how to use them to best effect.
Develop skills in lighting, and the art of camera operating.
Develop team leadership, equipment management and time management skills, with an emphasis on high level professional attitudes and industry best practice.
Throughout this one year course students will work on several practical projects. Methods of teaching will include screenings, discussions, practical demonstrations, practical exercises, with a focus on professional methodologies and conduct.

Pre-requisites:

A showreel demonstrating exceptional creativity and a strong visual sense
Applicants will have been the Cinematographer on at least 3 short narrative films, preferably at least 2 of them to have been shot on film.
Significant experience as a Camera Assistant in the film industry.
A demonstrable commitment to a career in Cinematography.
A fundamental knowledge of and experience with a range of film and digital cameras.
The Cinematography Department expects the highest level of creativity and professionalism from its students. The course is designed for highly committed students who show the potential for creative visual storytelling.
