Course Description:
'' A specialist award course that prepares students for employment designing environments for the screen. The course focuses on developing the design process through theory, skills and practice. Emphasis is placed on developing visual concepts using a mix of traditional drawing techniques and digital imaging, drafting and 3D modeling software and then transforming designs into reality on both sound stage and location.
By the end of this course students will have had the opportunity to:
Explore a range of genres including: documentary, television formats, screen drama and immersive environments Investigate design theory and its relationship to visually enhancing narrative Practice specialist skills relevant to Production Design process and communication across a range of production experiences Develop creative, collaborative, practical and critical skills in designing environments for the screen Understand the fundamentals of the relationship between cinematography and design Collaborate with other specialist departments in the creation of visual effects Throughout this 32 week course students will develop the skills required to work as Production Designer on a range of projects.
Through lectures, demonstrations, masterclasses and industry guest speakers students will investigate drafting, model making, cinematography, pre-visualisation and visual effects.
Each student is encouraged to complete a short industry placement
Pre-requisites:
Demonstrated ability in design related fields or fine arts and a passion for design. A portfolio or show reel is required. Professional motivation and leadership qualities Working knowledge of methods and tools available to designers including traditional methods and computer design software. The ability to work to a creative brief and to a deadline. A desire to tell stories Places in this course are limited.
