Course Description:
'' This full-time course develops a range of professional commercial radio industry skills to enable students to become competent, multi-skilled broadcasters. The course includes live to air major broadcasts, contacts with high level commercial radio identities and a two week professional work attachment.
By the end of this course students will have had the opportunity to:
Develop high level technical skills in on-air presenting, content creation and programming in the multi platform media environment
Gain a thorough knowledge of all aspects of studio operation and production skills, news writing and presentation, interviewing and talk back, copywriting, programming, management, sales, marketing and promotions as well as digital radio and internet broadcasting.
Competently operate a wide range of analogue and digital broadcast equipment and broadcast software used throughout the industry
Work collaboratively in high pressure simulations to tight deadlines in preparation for entering the professional commercial radio industry
Learn to respond professionally to feedback on their work, based on industry standard methods
Through lectures, demonstrations, workshops, tutorials and mentoring with industry current practitioners, students will gain a thorough knowledge of all aspects of on-air presenting, studio and production skills, news writing and presentation, interviewing and talk back, copywriting, programming, management, sales, marketing and promotions as well as digital radio and internet broadcasting.
This course provides opportunities to gain real experience working to the demands of the commercial radio industry and each student will complete a work attachment at a radio station.
Pre-requisites:
Willingness to take up employment in a commercial radio job anywhere in Australia.
Demonstrated talent in at least one specialist area of radio, such as announcing, production, news, copywriting or other skill.
Proficiency with computers and ability to use online tools
Higher School Certificate (or equivalent)
A level of maturity and life experience that will suit a career in commercial radio
Ability to attend a second audition and/or interview if required
This course is supported by the Australian radio industry.
This is an industry standard and highly practical course focusing on gaining professional employment in the commercial radio industry. Lectures are industry-current practitioners in their fields of expertise.
AFTRS radio studios are the most recent state-of-the-art facilities in Australia.
The course culminates in a work attachment in a commercial radio station.
