Course Description:
'' This module is designed for vehicle owners or drivers, who wish to develop basic skills in troubleshooting, engine tune-up and preventive maintenance. It covers the essential principles and procedures in vehicle maintenance which every owner or driver should know to ensure excellent vehicle performance. The module is designed for beginners but it is also recommended as a refresher course for non-beginners.
II. OBJECTIVES:
Upon completion of the module, the participants should be able to:
1. Explain the reasons for applying preventive maintenance;
2. Demonstrate the procedures in engine tune-up;
3. Identify basic car parts;
4. Demonstrate procedures in checking car parts; and
5. Perform basic car troubleshooting.
III. DURATION: 30 hours
IV. PREREQUISITE:
1. At least high school graduate
V. COMPETENCY LISTING:
1. Check ignition coil.
2. Test ignition distributor.
3. Check ignition timing.
4. Check and test ignition cables.
5. Clean and adjust spark plugs.
6. Check and test storage battery.
7. Check and clean fuel filters.
8. Adjust carburetor assembly.
9. Clean engine breather.
10. Clean air filters.
11. Replace engine oil and filter.
12. Clean fuel sediments (diesel).
13. Bleed air from fuel lines (diesel).
14. Check glow plugs (diesel).
15. Check brake drum and brake lining.
16. Inspect disc brakes.
17. Adjust wheel cylinder adjuster.
18. Inspect hand brake cables and lever.
19. Inspect front suspension.
20. Inspect rear suspension. ...''
