Course Description:
'' This module deals with the study of diesel engine principles and operation. Emphasis will be on engine overhauling troubleshooting, maintenance and repair.
II. OBJECTIVES:
Upon completion of the module, the participants should be able to:
1. Overhaul a diesel engine;
2. Inspect and adjust major engine components;
3. Perform injection pump overhauling and repair;
4. Perform basic troubleshooting; and,
5. Perform injection timing using the "spill cut- off method".
III. DURATION: 60 hours

1. High school graduate
V. COMPETENCY LISTING:
1. Disassemble engine parts.
2. Conduct visual inspection of engine.
3. Inspect and evaluate engine parts.
4. Check engine parts for correct specifications.
5. Check engine main bearing.
6. Check con rod bearings.
7. Check cylinder head.
8. Check engine valves.
9. Check pistons and rings.
10. Check valve guides.
11. Inspect cylinder bore.
12. Inspect crankshaft.
13. Inspect camshaft.
14. Inspect rocker arms.
15. Inspect cylinder block.
16. Inspect injection pump assembly.
17. Inspect injector.
18. Inspect high pressure fuel lines.
19. Inspect fuel filters.
20. Inspect air filter.
21. Check breather and PCV valve.
22. Inspect water pump.
23. Inspect prime pump and fuel semimender.
24. Inspect oil pump.
25. Inspect condition of thermostat.
26. Reassemble engine parts.
27. Adjust valve clearance.
28. Perform engine tune-up.
29. Put engine oil and filter.
30. Perform troubleshooting.
