Course Description:

'' This module deals with the study of gasoline engine principles and operation. Emphasis will be on engine overhauling, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair.

II. OBJECTIVES:

Upon completion of the module, the participants should be able to:

1. Explain the basic principles of a 4-stroke cycle gasoline engine;
2. Describe the engine component parts and engine systems;
3. Follow the tune-up procedures and techniques;
4. Use the basic car engine troubleshooting techniques; and,
5. Perform engine overhaul.

III. DURATION: 60 hours

1. High school graduate
2. Basic Car Servicing

1. Disassemble engine parts.
2. Conduct visual inspection of engine.
3. Inspect and evaluate engine parts.
4. Check engine parts.
5. Check main bearings.
6. Check con rod bearing.
7. Check cylinder head.
8. Check engine valves.
9 Check piston and rings.
10. Inspect cylinder bore.
11. Inspect crankshaft.
12. Inspect cylinder block.
13. Inspect water pump.
14. Inspect fuel pump.
15. Inspect oil pump.
16. Inspect thermostat.
17. Inspect distributor assembly.
18. Check condition of starter assembly.
19. Check condition of alternator assembly.
20. Check accessory belts.
21. Check filters.
22. Reassembly engine parts.
23. Adjust valve clearance.
24. Perform static timing.
25. Perform engine tune-up.
26. Put engine oil and filter.
27. Perform ignition timing.
28. Adjust carburetor idling.
29. Perform engine trouble shooting.
