Course Description:

'' This module deals with the fundamentals of Refrigeration and Air-conditioning units. It covers lessons on electrical circuits, welding of copper tubes, charging of refrigerants, troubleshooting and repair techniques. Also included are topics on Industrial/Commercial Refrigeration and Air- conditioning.

II. OBJECTIVES:

Upon completion of the module, the participant should be able to:
1. Read and interpret a wiring diagram;
2. Perform electrical circuit rewiring;
3. Perform oxy-acetylene welding on copper tubes;
4. Demonstrate soldering and brazing techniques;
5. Perform basic troubleshooting; and,
6. Perform preventive maintenance.

III. DURATION: 60 hours

IV. PREREQUISITE:

1. At least high school graduate

V. COMPETENCY LISTING:

1. Identify and testing instruments used in servicing.
2. Cut, flare, swage, bend and braze soft drawn copper tubes.
3. Trace the refrigeration cycle.
4. Identify types and construction of compressors.
5. Identify types and construction of condensers.
6. Identify types and construction of evaporators.
7. Identify types of refrigerant metering devices.
8. Identify refrigerants.
9. Identify electrical circuits.
10. Test hermetic motor compressor terminal.
11. Test motor compressor for ground, open and short circuits.
12. Test electrical components and controls of window type
air- conditioning system.
13. Connect electrical components and controls of refrigerator.
14. Identify and test fan motor terminals.
15. Test electrical components and controls of window type
air conditioning system.
16. Evaluate domestic refrigerator and window type air conditioning
system.
17. Leak test domestic refrigerator and window type air conditioning
system.
18. Charge domestic refrigerator and window type air conditioning
system.
19. General cleaning of window type air conditioning system.
