'' Of interest to musicians, songwriters, personal managers, producers, and anyone else seeking to learn the new basics of getting ahead in todays music business. With over 45 top industry panelists covering every aspect of the music industry, weekly lecture/discussion on key topics and current events, and individual song critique and press kit/Web site analysis, this intensive course offers participants a strong foundation of the business of music, an opportunity to increase their professional contacts and industry network, and practical and proactive strategies necessary for fulfilling their professional goals. Beginning with the first class, students are required to read chapter one of The Musicians Handbook (Billboard Books), and are encouraged to bring their demo recordings and packages for in-class evaluation by A&R representatives, music publishers, and entertainment attorneys. Concluding this course, student volunteers perform live at a popular L.A. venue, booked and promoted by the class.
