Managing Time and Priorities Workshop

School/Trainer:

CTE Solutions Inc.
Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

Course Format: Classroom | E-learning | Virtual Class | Online | On-site | Blended | Self-paced

Course Description:

'' In this 1-day workshop, participants will:

* Evaluate How You Use Your Time
While we know that we would have to have a record of our expenses if we wanted to save money, or keep a record of what we eat if we wanted to lose weight, we also need to keep track of how we are spending our time if we expect to get control of time and priorities.

* What is Your Time-use Style?
Each of use views time differently and these different perspectives on time brings us particular gifts and disadvantages as we set priorities and manage our time.

* Identify and Practise the Habits of Good Time Managers
What do good time managers know and do that you don’t and how would the adoption of even a few of their practices make your day more productive.

* The Seven Things That Good Time Managers Do to Get Things Done
Good time management is often the practise of good management techniques and learning to use what you already know and do it in a more disciplined manner.

* How to Recognize a Priority and What to Do About It
Not everything is equally important and equally deserving of attention. Using a “A-B-Capproach will make sure that you are focussing on the right item and giving it the attention that it deserves.

* Planning Made Painless to Increase the Time to Be Spontaneous
Planning is to time and priority management what breathing is to the human body. Get out of the crisis merry go round and determine what has to be done, when it has to be done, identify the risks inherent in doing it and make time to celebrate.

* Techniques For Managing The Mess on Your Desk
Your time use style will help you understand why some people have an easier time than others in managing the mess on their desks. Get control of the clutter, put things where you can find them, make the paper burden go away and don’t let anyone put anything on your desk.

* Handling Priorities From Others
When others give you priorities to work on can you determine what is a given, what is negotiable and what is within your control? Asking the right questions will give you the guidance that you need.

* Getting Time For What is Important to You
Life is not a “to-do list Making the time to do what is truly important to you will energize and refresh you and make you more able to manage time and priorities.

* How to Balance Urgencies and Impact
Do you have a proactive view of events that includes analysing the likelihood of occurrence and the impact of that occurrence? This simple methodology will help you identify the inevitable and the unlikely events that may occur.

* How to Avoid Doing it All Yourself and Delegate When Possible
“If you want it done right then you better do it yourselfis the perfectionist’s view, while the delegator’s view is “If you want someone else to do it then you better make sure they can Delegation will make your life easier, develop subordinates and free you to deal with those things that only you can.

* Learning How to Say "No" to Unreasonable Demands on Your Time
Setting limits on what you can do or what you will do is how you prevent burnout. Knowing when and how to say “noin a way that is appropriate can be a lifesaver.

* Using Your Agenda Book More Effectively
An agenda book can your work plan and a record of what has been done, what needs to be done, by whom, when, and the results or expectations, or it can be a list of your appointments with no indication of why you want to meet this person and what you hope to get out of the meeting.

* Saving Time by Saying What You Mean
How much time gets wasted in your organization when people don’t communicate well? Avoid duplication of effort, the need to redo work, conflicts around roles and responsibilities by developing good communication skills.

* Overcoming Procrastination in Yourself and In Others
Procrastinators don’t have trouble finishing a job, it’s the getting started that is so hard. You can make it easier for yourself and other procrastinators to get started and break poor planning habits.

Participants will practise the skills of time and priority management by using case studies and examples from their own work area to identify ways of working more effectively. Bring your agenda books with you.
