Course Description:

'' To be a competent climbing instructor you must first have a thorough knowledge of the methods and practices required to keep your students safe. Accordingly, successful completion of our Anchoring Skills Evaluation is a prerequisite for this course. Created for qualified climbers who wish to present safe, well-conceived experiences in a top-roped setting, this course emphasizes the teaching process.

How to convey complex concepts and make them easy to understand, when to let students learn from their own mistakes (and when not to), helping your students avoid some of the common rope-handling and movement errors, and setting realistic goals and appropriate challenges are a few of the topics we’ll explore.

In addition, we’ll cover administrative topics including safety policies, liability, documentation and logistics. Although the course is aimed at teaching recreational climbers, we can easily adjust the content to address the specialized concerns of institutional or therapeutic climbing programs.

The topics covered in this course are fundamental to teaching climbing and will be suitable whether you teach indoors, on a climbing wall, or outside on the rock. The format for this course includes lots of practice teaching where your instructor will inject a variety of challenging and realistic occurrences into the scenario.

We’ll provide a written evaluation of your performance at the end of the course.
