Course Description:
'' (Includes lab fee.) This course covers interpretation from Spanish to English, emphasizing simultaneous modes of interpretation with some consecutive interpretation as related to court and adjudicatory hearings in chuchotage. Instruction includes practice in the Rozan method of note taking; materials include court proceedings and selected articles. Extensive use of tapes for practice in décalage and simultaneous translation of legal and political speeches and lectures. Prerequisite: X 461A Consecutive Interpretation: Court Proceedings--Spanish/English and X 461B Consecutive Interpretation: Adjudicatory Hearings--Spanish/English and admission to Certificate Program in Interpretation and Translation: Spanish/English. This course also is open to anyone who has passed the written section of the State Certification Examination for Court Interpreters and is preparing for the oral exam. Required course in Certificate Program in Interpretation and Translation: Spanish/English. Enrollment limited. Students must be enrolled for credit by the first class in order to receive materials.
