Course Description:

'' This course begins a sequence of three courses (XL 1, XL 2, XL 3) covering the first year of college-level Italian. Fundamental communication skills are introduced, including grammar and pronunciation. Instruction develops a basic conversational vocabulary, including idiomatic expressions. Contemporary Italian language and culture are covered using a wide variety of interactive exercises and authentic materials. The present and past tense of regular and irregular verbs and the present progressive are emphasized. Conducted entirely in Italian, although no previous knowledge of Italian is required. Enrollment limited; early enrollment advised. Required text and workbook: Oggi in Italia (7th edition) by Merlonghi, et al. (Audiocassettes or CDs are available for purchase.)
