Course Description:
'' Ableton Live is mentioned time and again as an essential sequencing software application that allows DJs, producers and sound designers to reach new musical heights. With Berkleemusic’s Professional Certificate in Music Production using Ableton Live, you’ll become fluent with Ableton, and along the way gain fundamental knowledge about other programs that will enhance your capabilities using Ableton. Ableton Live’s many features multi-track recording, nondestructive editing, creative MIDI sequencing raise the threshold for what is possible both on stage and in the studio, and this certificate program gives you the tools you’ll need to access all of these possibilities.
The first three courses in this certificate program will provide the necessary music production background to maximize your Ableton experience. You’ll begin with Critical Listening, a course that will help you recognize the importance of the mixing process through a combination of weekly training drills, analysis of classic recordings, and comparison of various mixing styles. You’ll learn to identify width and depth, frequency range, dynamics, and the different mix approaches used in various musical genres. By the end of the course you’ll be able to recognize techniques such as panning, alternate types and uses of reverb, delay, compression, and different types of distortion. Not only will you learn what elements are most important in a mix, but also how to optimize a mix to make it as compelling as possible.
Following on Critical Listening is Sampling and Audio Production, which will take you through the basics of the samplers parts and functions and examine the many ways this tool can be used. In depth sampling principles will be studied, including programming single and multi-sample programs, digital signal processing, and extending the sampler program using synthesis. Particular focus will be given to Reasons NN-XT sampler, but you will also practice with the NN-19, Redrum and Dr. Rex. At the end, you’ll be able to create fully functional sampler programs with your own unique source material.
In Sound Design for the Electronic Musician, you’ll learn to create your own electronic sounds for musical productions using Propellerheads Reason and Native InstrumentsAbsynth. The course begins by introducing you to the basics of how synthesizers work, sound design concepts, and how to program a wide variety of synthesizers. From there youll explore more detailed aspects of sound creation and manipulation including imitating acoustic instruments, FM, oscillator sync, ring modulation, and advanced modulation. Once you’ve mastered these concepts, you’ll be well prepared to dive into the world of Ableton Live.
Producing Music with Ableton Live will give you the creative and technical skills necessary to work with this unique sequencing tool. You’ll explore Live’s interface, work within its various views to record and edit audio and MIDI, and explore its unique real-time recording and mixing capabilities. By the end of the course, youll know how to compile live sets from audio and MIDI clips, loops, or samples in real time, and create songs in any number of contemporary styles.
The professional certificate finishes with Advanced Music Production with Ableton Live. Picking up where the previous course left off, this course offers a forward-thinking approach to recording, editing, mixing and mastering using Ableton Live. You’ll get in-depth training on Lives components, such as Operator, Sampler, Analog, Tension, and Electric, and master tools for live performance such as on-the-fly beat creation, and real-time time-stretching and warping of sound files for DJing and instant remixing. Additionally, you’ll delve into effects processing with compression, gate, chorus, flanging, and other delay lines, and learn how to use Racks to combine them to create original and dynamic textures. The course culminates with a final project in which students create a full-length song or a live performance tool.
At the end of this program, you’ll have received an amazing production background, the most extensive Ableton training that Berkleemusic provides, and the ability to turn your musical visions into reality. ...''
