In the world of electronic music, new techniques and new technologies are constantly revising the state of the art, and getting serious about a career means staying on top of the very latest trends. In Berkleemusic’s Specialist Certificate in Electronic Music Production using Reason you’ll learn how to create amazing-sounding, professional-quality electronic music in your home studio, and gain the skills and versatility to stay ahead of the competition. From the nuts and bolts of sampling and MIDI sequencing, to developing hip-hop drum and bass grooves and mastering the principles and techniques to create mash-ups, stereo master remixes, a cappella remixes, and multi-track remixes, this program will make you a complete electronic music producer using Reason, ready for vinyl, club, radio, and anywhere else you want to go.
In MIDI Sequencing Intermediate, you’ll learn how to use MIDI gracefully to create natural-sounding grooves, that lend texture, depth, and just the right feel to every project you work on. Using Reason software, you’ll use MIDI to create music in two very different styles, electronic dance music and the blues, and through them learn how to make music that sounds believable, professional, right. “Some people say that MIDI sequences can sound mechanical, says instructor Michael Moss. “But that’s not something in MIDI itself. It’s in the way that people use and misuse MIDI sequencing.Whether you want to use MIDI to drop a live-sounding horn part into a track or recreate the chilly angular textures of the glory days of Detroit Techno, this class will teach you how. And by the time you’re done, you’ll understand how to layer parts to create a track, create natural-sounding and artificial-sounding environments with MIDI, create a bass line in MIDI and apply it in Reason, assemble ReDrum patterns in a song, add vocals to your dance track, prepare and use your own samples in MIDI, and use MIDI effectively in both blues and dance music contexts.
In Hip-Hop Writing and Production, you’ll study writing and production considerations unique to hip-hop, from its distinctive drumbeats and bass lines to its use of vocals, samples, and instrumentation. You’ll study the techniques that hip-hop producers use to create hit songs, and then use this foundation to produce your own songs using Reason. You’ll develop drum and bass grooves, build arrangements, and learn to apply the techniques, tools, and strategies from the course into productions in any musical style.
In the last course of this program, Remixing with Pro Tools and Reason, you’ll learn to leverage the power of Pro Tools 7 and Reason 3.0 using ReWire technology, and gain a comprehensive understanding of how these powerful programs work together in the remixing process. By producing four remixes based on different types of source material (stereo master, a cappella, breakout tracks, and a multi-track Pro Tools session), you’ll learn the techniques of audio and MIDI editing, ReWire software protocol between Pro Tools and Reason, audio recycling, beat syncing, and groove quantization. Youll move on to study advanced remixing techniques using EQ-ing, filtering, and automation, learn to import and arrange REX audio loops, and understand the time compression/expansion tools needed to create an effective remix. By the end of the course, youll learn practical applications that go beyond remix production, and gain a diverse skill set that will help you to better understand mixing, editing, and producing original material.
With the skills from the Specialist Certificate in Electronic Music Production using Reason in your toolbox, you’ll be well on your way to being a versatile, professional, efficient creator of electronic music. ...''
