Training Course:

Animal Assisted Therapy (Diploma)

School/Trainer:

BSY Group
Devon, United Kingdom

Course Format: Classroom | E-learning | Virtual Class | Online | On-site | Blended | Self-paced

Course Description:

'' Over the last twenty years, a considerable amount of human-companion animal research has increased our understanding of how social relationships with animals may be related to human health and well-being. Based on clinical observations and data from existing studies, researchers have suggested that repeated interaction with a companion animal could have beneficial long-term effects, especially for people experiencing acute or chronic stress.

The purpose of animal assisted therapy (AAT) is to strengthen, support and help people to live rewarding and healthy lives. Most people who need help from care-givers have experienced some kind of difficulty in life which has often led to personal suffering. Reflecting on this trauma can be painful, and focusing on the future can be frightening. The presence of an animal almost immediately and inevitably orients one’s attention to the present. Most people are attracted to the comfort and reassurance offered unconditionally by a therapy pet.

This fully revised and updated course examines the benefits of AAT, the way in which animals can provide social support, and the relationship between animals and humans. The student will understand the way in which an animal is chosen and trained, and the way in which a client is screened for suitability for AAT work. The student will also learn how to devise programmes and how to use solution-focused therapy in order to help a wide range of people including children, adults and those with special needs.
