'' Medical coding has standards instituted by the Federal government and industry associations to establish guidelines for appropriate billing for complex healthcare services. Coding abuse is one of the most prevalent forms of abusive billing due to the technical and complex nature of diagnostic and procedure pairing protocols. In this class, you will gain an understanding of what constitutes fraud and how it is differentiated from abusive billing. Discussions will focus on techniques used in the detection and prevention of fraud, waste and abuse schemes in healthcare, including pharmaceutical fraud.
