'' The Clinical Healthcare Case Management Certificate is designed to provide you with the skills and tools you need to perform as a healthcare case practitioner or nurse case manager. Due to the increased national nursing shortage, case management opportunities for both clinical and healthcare practitioners are in high demand across healthcare systems and the insurance industry as a whole. The Clinical Healthcare Case Management Certificate is appropriate for those who are new to the field of healthcare case management, as well as current nurse case managers who want formal education for career enhancement.
Two certificates are offered in case management: the Certificate in Clinical Healthcare Case Management and the Certificate in Case Management for Healthcare Practitioners and. Both certificates require the completion of four courses totaling 72 hours consisting of 7.2 Continuing Education Units (CEUs).
Case managers are vital members of the healthcare team. They navigate an increasingly complex system to assure that patients have access to quality care delivered in a cost-effective manner. Their role includes being a patient advocate and a liaison between patients and healthcare providers; providing physical assessments; and promoting wellness programs. According to the US Department of Labor, employment of healthcare case managers is expected to grow faster than the average for all occupations through 2010.
Program Objective The goal of the Certificate in Clinical Healthcare Case Management is to meet the educational needs of individuals seeking to learn more about the field of case management and the role that case managers play in the healthcare and insurance industries.
At the conclusion of the certificate program, graduates will be able to: - Identify the role and functions of the nurse/clinical healthcare case manager according to the Standards of Practice - Define the core components of case management and describe the different types of case management models - Understand the major components of managed care and different healthcare delivery systems - Identify the different provider organizations, reimbursement methods, and insurance classifications - Learn terminology, data management and the critical thinking process in determining patient priorities in case management - Gain an understanding of disease management in developing a plan-of-care including end-of-life philosophies - Describe the legislative, medical ethics, and confidentiality issues inherent in nurse case management - Understand the role cultural diversity plays in nurse/healthcare case management
