'' Upon completion of the certificate program, graduates will be able to:
- Identify and discuss the process of translation and interpretation and differentiate between the roles of the interpreter/translator
- Demonstrate an understanding and exhibit a high standard of professionalism through knowledge of the healthcare interpretation field, its practices, social issues, professional code of conduct and code of ethics
- Understand the problems and complexities of interpretation and the roles and responsibilities of a healthcare interpreter
- Identify and apply interpretation-related skills necessary in a healthcare setting
- Identify, understand and use pertinent terminology representative of healthcare interpreting
- Identify problems and apply problem-solving strategies necessary in a healthcare setting
- Demonstrate awareness of the diverse cultural factors and linguistic sensitivity that play a crucial role in healthcare interpreting
- Carry out research to prepare for interpretation assignments
- Be better prepared to take the State Medical Interpreting Exam
