Course Description:

'' Capable community managers continue to be in high demand, and the Community Management Certificate is just what you need to get up to speed. The Community Management Certificate is also a great option for experienced community managers seeking professional training to validate their expertise.

There are currently 4,000 homeowner associations (HOAs) in Orange County that are managed jointly by a board of volunteer homeowners and professional community managers.

Whether exploring community management as a career option, or seeking greater opportunity in the industry, students in the Community Management Certificate benefit from discussions on a wide array of topics. These include an industry overview, communication and influencing skills, contract negotiation, and project management. Experience in real estate transactions or property management would be a natural for this industry many tout as "recession proof".

The California Association of Community Managers (CACM) has agreed to provide 6 event hours of Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for CACMs who complete the certificate program.

The Certificate in Community Management consists of six courses totaling 57 hours of lecture and hands-on experience. The certificate graduate will receive 5.7 Continuing Education Units, a nationally recognized unit used for professional development

Program Objective
Upon completion of the certificate program, graduates will be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the functions and responsibilities involved in managing a common-interest development
- Understand, discuss, and demonstrate the ability to apply effective communication, meeting facilitation, and conflict resolution skills in situations often encountered by community management professionals
- Identify and discuss elements of influencing and persuasion practices relevant to homeowner association settings
- Discuss and apply effective contract negotiation and management tools and strategies
- Understand fundamental budgeting and financial management practices applicable in the management of HOAs
- Identify and discuss elements involved in successful project management
