Course Description:
'' Forensic Science introduces the student to the history, principles, and practices of the use of science in our criminal justice system. Examines the medical and legal uses of the forensic sciences and their specific application in the resolution of criminal investigations. Topics include DNA analysis, fingerprints, firearms examination, and trace evidence. Prerequisite: CRIM-101. Three hours lecture each week. Three credits. Three billable hours.
Course Objectives and Grading Information Course Objectives:
Develop a general understanding of the history of forensic science and how it has evolved through the years. Overview of those individuals who have contributed to the development of the forensic science disciplines. Develop a general understanding of the various forensic science disciplines and how they are related. Introduction to the basics of evidence collection. Overview of the importance forensic science plays in court proceedings. Develop a basic understanding of the importance of expert witness testimony. Develop a general understanding of the basic principles of forensic science and how they are applied to the various disciplines. ...''
