Course Description:
'' Introduction to Clinical Nursing introduces concepts of professional nursing. The Neuman Systems Model is the framework for the study of client care in lecture, in the campus laboratories, and in sub-acute and long-term care facilities. Prerequisite: Admission to the Nursing Program. Forty-five hours lecture, forty-two hours laboratory, and seventy-two hours of clinical experience each term. Six credits. Six billable hours. Offered Fall Term only. Additional $75 fee required.
Course Objectives and Grading Information Course Objectives:
To demonstrate in the clinical setting and community, in individual and group conferences, in written communications, and on written examinations a beginning knowledge of the concepts of professional nursing. The student will:
Practice nursing within an established theoretical framework, the Neuman Systems Model for adult clients in subacute and long term care facilities with coaching. Use the nursing process to prioritize nursing care for the adult client experiencing common recurring stressors from the internal and external environment as a means of decision-making for refining and evaluating practice with coaching. Use critical thinking and applied theories, principles, evidenced-based nursing, and concepts in making decisions to assist the adult client to attain, maintain and retain stability with coaching. Provide safe, competent nursing care. Implement comprehensive therapeutic communication skills, both written and verbal, when interacting with the adult client system and members of the health care team during primary, secondary and tertiary prevention with coaching. Provide client teaching to strengthen normal and flexible lines of defense with coaching. Demonstrate through practice, the legal and ethical parameters while caring for the adult client system that is retaining, attaining, and/or maintaining the goal of system stability. Analyze the impact of ones own behaviors, attitudes, and values in helping the adult client system deal with stressors affecting physiological, psychological, sociocultural, developmental, and spiritual variables. Demonstrate accountability for decision-making related to nursing by internalizing professional workforce behaviors. Identify levels of nursing education and nursing professional organizations. Identify interrelationships and patterns of delegation among members of the health care team. ...''
