Course Description:
'' This course provides international students who have a good command of English with a more sophisticated command of the writing and reading skills in order to be academically competitive. It focuses on academic and social written communication: writing formal papers, increasing reading speed, and citing reference sources. Discussion of the various readings will also provide an opportunity for vocabulary building and cultural exploration.
Course Objectives:
To provide a general framework for understanding and practicing English reading and writing skills To introduce students to the variety of forms and purposes of academic, written communication and language in various contexts To develop abilities in formal and informal writing To develop critical thinking and improve reading skills To constructively critique readings and the written work of others To further develop the following skills: reading, writing, language use, nonverbal cues, and other components of effective group discussion To demonstrate basic skills in researching, evaluating, and referencing information ...''
