'' The program aims to provide an understanding of a wide variety of estimating topics including:
Different estimate types (conceptual, systems, unit cost)
Compiling projects estimates
Effects of project contract type on the estimating process
Use of specifications and construction drawings in the estimating process, including use of an electronic measuring wheel
Pricing direct costs, including self-performed work and subcontracted work
Pricing labor, material, and equipment costs.
Taking off major building systems (concrete, masonry, steel, mechanical, electrical)
Pricing project overhead costs, including insurance, financing, and bonds
Pricing company overhead costs to determine the "break-even" volume
Selecting subcontractors
Analyzing subcontractors’ combination bids
Effects of project schedule on project cost
Examining the estimate to identify project financial risks
Using estimates to control project cost
Relation of the estimate to the company’s financial systems
During the program, students will use drawings and specifications from an actual project to complete the estimating assignments. Students will also be introduced to Timberline Estimating Software by Sage Software.
