'' The main characteristics of the supply chain management approach are customer orientation, relationship management, thinking in flows and processes and the borderless organisation. The main tasks of supply chain management are the design, organisation of supply, production and distribution networks for the provision of the customers with the required goods in due time at lowest costs. There are many strategic, tactical and operative decisions involved which relate to three generic supply chain activities:

the integration and synchronisation of all business processes within and between organisations
the harmonisation of the flow of goods between the suppliers�supplier and the customers�customers
the demand-driven supply of information for all involved actors in the supply chain.
