Course Description:
'' This is a one-year, full-time Master?s course. The first semester (September-January) consists of taught core modules and the second semester (February-May) includes further taught core and elective modules and supervised dissertation research. The final four months of the course (June-September) are devoted to writing a dissertation. Core modules will comprise:
An Evaluation of Financial Accounting and Reporting Examining theoretical developments in financial accounting and reporting from an economic, social and political context
An Evaluation of Management Accounting Critically examining the application of management accounting within the business environment, with regard to theoretical frameworks and contemporary research
Corporate Finance Examining the underlying theories, concepts, tools and techniques required for the quoted company investment and financing decisions, and the interaction of the same
Research Methods An introduction to research methods and methodology for finance, business and accounting
Project A: Dissertation Preparation Complementing Research Methods, and based on an individual research proposal, this module focuses on the preparation of the dissertation literature review
Project B: Dissertation An individual and sustained piece of original work that addresses a specific area in the field of accounting and finance. Elective modules include: International Taxation Policies, Risk Management, International Finance, Strategic and Financial Decision Making, Investment Theory and Analysis, Mergers and Acquisitions
Dissertation The dissertation, completed during the final four months of the course (June-September), is a research-based written project on a finance/accounting subject of specific interest to you and/or your employer.
Teaching/assessment Teaching is delivered through formal lectures, more informal seminars, tutorials, workshops, discussions and e-learning packages. Assessment is usually through a combination of individual and group work, presentations, essays, reports and examinations.
