Course Description:
'' The course is based on four modules of 15 credits each. The modules are studied over a period of 16 months (September-December). There will be an Induction programme at enrolment to ensure that you are fully conversant with the University’s systems and the sources available electronically. The modules will be studied in a staged approach with one module occupying September to December, two modules from January to April/May, and the final module June to December. The modules are Level 1 with the exception of module 4 which is at Level 2 to enable you to demonstrate progression and a higher level of achievement. Module 1 is designed to ensure that you are able to grasp basic legal techniques of reasoning and the sources of law. Module 1 and the induction programme ensures you are able to make satisfactory progress through the remaining stages, irrespective of your educational background.
The modules comprising the course (each of 15 credits) are:
Module 1 Thinking, Writing and Legal Skills
Module 2 Institutions of Administrative Justice
Module 3 Decision Making, Evidence and Judgecraft
Module 4 The Wider System of Administrative Justice
Teaching/assessment
Teaching will consist of guided self-study and a variety of small group or one-to-one student/tutor interactions characterise the learning strategy. In addition, completion of the written assignments in the modules provide significant opportunity for formative assessment and therefore learning, particularly when linked with detailed feedback provided by tutors.
The study days will operate as priming your study of a forthcoming module and will also be used to deliver feedback on the written assessments which have been undertaken.
