'' In the first year of the course you can expect to study modules such as:
Research Designs in Health
Innovation, Leadership and Advancing Quality in Clinical Practice
Evidence-Based Practice.
These modules examine the underpinnings of a modern research-based health service and provide the foundation for the dissertation. Several other cohorts of students also take these modules from a health service background, and inter-professional discussion will be encouraged, so as to ensure that topics are examined from a range of perspectives.
The second year has the following core modules:
Advanced cancer biology
Advanced molecular genetics and genomics
Advanced topics in biomedical science.
Additionally, you will study your chosen specialism at an advanced level, eg advanced clinical biochemistry, advanced histopathology and cytopathology, advanced immunology, advanced haematology, advanced medical microbiology.
In the final year you will carry out a research project (dissertation) in your NHS Laboratory. This will enable you to choose and research a particular topic in your particular specialism in depth. Following the submission of the dissertation there will be an oral presentation and questions.
