'' Effective marketing communications are an essential element of any firm’s marketing strategy. This course focuses on advertising and communications theory and practice and explores this exciting discipline within the wider area of marketing. Methods of communication can make all the difference in marketing, advertising, public relations, sales, retail, services and management.
The first year introduces the basic principles of business, management, finance and marketing. The second and third years include a range of specialist core modules such as Advertising and Promotion, Brand Management, Buyer Behaviour, Marketing Research, Interactive and Direct Marketing, Campaign Planning, Advertising and Marketing Communications, and Project and Strategic Marketing Management. Optional modules might include International Marketing, Business Law, Non-Profit Marketing, Customer Management, Interactive Marketing Campaign and e-Marketing. Marketing can also be studied as a Joint Honours Degree, combined with subjects such as Computing, HRM, Law, Media Studies or Psychology. This degree has close links with industry with several of the modules incorporating ‘live�projects that involve working with clients, agencies and industry bodies.
The Department of Marketing is one of the largest in the UK and Commonwealth. Its staff, which include professors of international renown, contribute to quality teaching, research and consultancy projects. The department enjoys excellent relationships with professional bodies. The depth and breadth of staff expertise allows us to offer a wide range of specialist marketing subjects. Many staff edit, or are on editorial boards of marketing journals. Their textbooks and book chapters for marketing texts are widely read and are used by other universities as core and supplementary learning materials.
Teaching/assessment Teaching and learning is delivered through a range of methods including lectures, tutorials, workshops, e-learning packages and seminars, group work and self-directed study. Assessment will usually be through a combination of individual and group work, coursework, presentations, essays, reports and examinations or tests.
