Course Description:

'' The course helps you to develop a strong skillbase and combine both traditional and technical skills. Drawing, physical modelling and creating believable movements are
core study elements. Industry links, work placements and industry-standard projects aid career prospects.

You will have the opportunity to work with people from the industry and participate in festivals and competitions. You will graduate with a showreel that demonstrates your skills. The course covers four key areas:

The animation design element involves understanding animation principles and
develops production and post-production skills. It also explores multiple animation techniques incorporating storytelling and sound
Animation and visual effects production covers the fundamentals of working in CG including modelling, texturing, creating rigs, lighting, camera techniques, animation, rendering and motion capture. The emphasis on visual effects is on compositing computer-generated imagery with video footage to enhance digital productions
Visual communication consists of
production design for animation, storyboarding, character designs, observational drawings, motion analysis and 3D sculpts
Critical studies focus on animation history,
film language, cultural studies, and
research and communication skills.

Teaching/assessment
Teaching is through lectures and seminars, supported by industry guest speakers. Practical classes provide hands-on experience of creating animation and manipulating visual effects tools. The University’s Virtual Learning Environment also provides access to course materials. You will be assessed through assignments, research, presentation and reports. Assignments include live projects set by industry.
