Course Description:

'' Computer Science combines study of core theoretical principles with relevant practical experience. In addition to gaining knowledge and skills using state-of-the-art software and hardware technologies, you will be exposed to a variety of design approaches which will teach you how and why certain methods have been used. By learning fundamental concepts and techniques, we are preparing you to adapt in this fast-changing field of study.

Prior knowledge of computing is not required. Indeed, talent in a variety of areas is a good indicator of potential success on this course including, for example, creative and analytical skills, a flair for design and an ability to think logically. We also welcome applications from people who have previous experience in computing, either through work or study, and who wish to pursue this subject area in depth.

The first year covers the foundations of computer science including system architecture, computer programming, database techniques, and web-interface design. During the second year you will study software development methodology, database analysis and design, object oriented software design and implementation and also internet software development. You then have the opportunity to spend the third year in industry. In the final year, you will undertake both an individual project, modules covering software quality, professionalism and ethics, plus modules covering advanced software development.
