Course Description:
'' Fashion Design encompasses a wide range of projects, including briefs from designer labels through to the high street. This enables you to gain specialist design and technical expertise relevant to a range of fashion activities. Design of womenswear, menswear and childrenswear features in a variety of modules as you develop your work from initial design concept through to the finished garment.
Year one develops fundamental fashion design skills, historical and cultural studies and computer-aided design. Study in year two is more focused, with the emphasis on experimentation and in-depth project research with 3D development. New skills are introduced, such as tailoring and fashion prediction, as well as collaborative work with industry and with the textile area. The major project in year three gives you an opportunity to set your own briefs and produce a final collection of garments.
Teaching/assessment Teaching encompasses design studio practice, formal lectures, group seminars, tutorials, exhibition and store visits, presentations and practical workshops. Assessment occurs at the end of each semester with informal critiques held at appropriate times throughout the year.
