Course Description:

'' This course features employer involvement and firmly integrates academic and work-based learning. It is made up of eight modules with four modules studied in each year.

Formal skill-based training develops hand skills and machine making techniques using both traditional and contemporary construction methods. You are encouraged to present ideas through verbal presentations, working drawings, models and prototypes.

Skills and abilities are developed through practical assignments linked to current industrial and commercial practice, and you will produce working prototype designs. You will also produce a critical study and portfolio presentation and undertake a self-determined project.

The course includes study visits to industry and visiting guest lecturers teach on and assess modules. There is a work placement within the Furniture Industry at the end of the first year.

Woodworking machinery
Design process
Timber construction technology
Drawing systems
History of furniture and cabinet making
Application of computers
Veneering, laminating and finishing.
