Training Course:

Intelligent Systems and Robotics (Certificate) (Diploma) (Master Degree)

School/Trainer:

De Montfort University
Leicester, United Kingdom

Course Format: Classroom | E-learning | Virtual Class | Online | On-site | Blended | Self-paced

Course Description:

'' Artificial intelligence encompasses techniques and methods that can be used to tackle problems that are not solved well by more traditional approaches to computing. There are a large number of topics that could be considered, but the four areas of fuzzy logic, neural networks, evolutionary computing and knowledge-based systems provide you with an array of tools and paradigms that encompass much of what is considered to be artificial (or computational) intelligence.

The modular nature of the course means that a number of qualifications are available depending on the number of modules taken and passed. Successful completion of four modules leads to the award of a Postgraduate Certificate and a Postgraduate Diploma can be obtained from completion of a further four modules or the project. Alternatively, completion of all eight modules and the project earns the full MSc.

Modules include:

Computational Intelligence Research Methods
Details quantitative and qualitative approaches including laboratory evaluation, surveys, case studies and action research
Artificial Intelligence Programming
Presents a logical programming approach. AI programming is a key skill and necessary tool for problem solving in industry
Mobile Robots
Discusses the hardware and software architectures used to build mobile robot systems
Intelligent Mobile Robots (MSc ISR only)
Covers the sensing, representing, modelling of the environment, adaptive behaviour and social behaviour of robots
Fuzzy Logic
Considers the history and the various fuzzy paradigms which have become established as computational tools
Artificial Neural Networks
Appraises neural network computing from an engineering approach and the use of networks for cognitive modelling
Evolutionary Computing
Details the theoretical issues of evolutionary computing, including genetic algorithms, evolutionary systems, data representation and genetic operators
Applied Computational Intelligence
Considers the historical, philosophical and future implications of AI and then focuses on current research and applications in the area
Data Mining
This module examines the tools and techniques needed to mine the large quantities of data generated in today’s information age. It provides practical experience as well as consideration of research and application areas
Individual Project
This provides an opportunity to demonstrate the skills you have acquired in a problem solving capacity. This typically involves the analysis, design and implementation of a computer system.
Optional placement opportunities

We offer a great opportunity to boost your career prospects through an optional 12 month placement as part of your postgraduate studies. We have a dedicated Industrial Placement Unit which will help you obtain a one year placement. Once in placement, you will be supported by your visiting tutor to ensure that you gain maximum benefit from the experience. Placements begin after the taught component of the course has been completed - usually around June - and last for 12 months. When you return from work placement you then begin the dissertation stage of your course.
