'' Pharmacists are experts in all aspects of medicines and drugs, who use their expertise to advise prescribers on drug selection and patients on how to get the most from their medicines. As such they play a vital role in providing quality healthcare to patients. Pharmacists can be involved in any aspect of the use of medicines from their preparation, discovery and development to their use by patients.
The course, delivered by a team of subject experts and Pharmacists who work in community and hospital practice, is designed to deliver a strong science base to support professional clinical practice. This reflects the status of Pharmacists as experts in medicines who:
Dispense medicines and advise patients and health professionals on their use Are involved in the design and manufacture of medicines Work within the NHS to ensure medicines are used safely and effectively. You will study a range of subjects including:
Pharmaceutical Chemistry Medicines Design and Manufacture Pharmacology and Therapeutics Pharmacy Practice. Professional studies and aspects of patient care are introduced from the first year of study. A programme of inter-professional education encourages you to learn alongside medical, nursing and social work students.
You are supported to secure a one year pre-registration professional experience placement which you must successfully complete in order to register as a Pharmacist. Graduates must also pass the national examination set by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain.
