Course Description:

'' In studying Radio Production, you focus on the skills, knowledge and techniques needed to be an effective producer in the radio industry. You will gain advanced skills and knowledge in audio production, radio programme making, audio content development, ICT, research, communication and team work.

This course is highly practical and is aimed at people who want to work as technical producers in the radio industry. This course covers all aspects of the operation of a radio station, and the technology that makes it work.

Areas of work you can go into include; in radio studios producing live news, music and talk programmes; working in recording studios producing drama, documentaries and features; and setting-up and running outside-broadcasts.

The course offers extensive levels of practical work (60%) and the study of recording technology, multimedia, electronic systems, digital systems and audio-visual technology. You will gain a wide background in the practical production of audio content for radio, working on digital and analogue mixing desks, surround-sound mixers, ProTools, Rivendell and Audition. You learn using state-of-the-art recording studios and broadcast facilities.

A number of the practical modules are taught in conjunction with staff from the BBC’s Training and Development facility in Worcestershire. This may involve short periods away from the University campus and hence some modest additional accommodation costs may be incurred. Teaching staff on the course have excellent links with the radio industry including bodies such as the UK Radio Academy.
