Course Description:

'' Cost‑effective pavement management results from careful design, quality construction and timely maintenance. Engineers and technical managers are faced with the challenges of maintaining, within shrinking budgets, the investment in highways and urban roads. Although new materials and methods are being added to the roadway manager’s repertoire, they must accommodate increasing axle loads while continually fighting a challenging battle against rutted and cracked surfaces, pesky and dangerous depressions and potholes.

You receive the information necessary to deal with these challenges. You examine implications of soils and pavement materials, roadway drainage, practical techniques for field evaluation of pavement conditions, review causes and effective remedies of pavement deterioration. You discuss pavement maintenance and rehabilitation techniques such as patching, crack sealing, thin surface restoration techniques, overlays, and other innovative methods and materials to cost-effectively extend the useful service life of your transportation assets. Your understanding is further enhanced through presentations of case studies and real-life examples where you can ask all your questions about maintenance and rehabilitation.

To provide an update on pavement management, with special emphasis on materials and procedures used in design, construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation.
