Course Description:
'' This course will provide an overview of pharmaceutical water systems. Rules, regulations, guidelines, and regulatory expectations will be presented. Impurities in feed water supplies will be discussed. A "unit operation" approach will be used to discuss pretreatment techniques, ion removal techniques, storage, and distribution. Regulatory concerns will be addressed as each unit operation and section of a system is presented. Emphasis will be placed on microbial control throughout the system, from feed water to final product water quality at individual points-of-use. Installation, validation, operating, and preventative maintenance will be discussed as an important item for maintaining a "controlled" system. Finally, "hands on" experience with specific examples will be presented throughout the course to demonstrate potential common "pitfalls".
Objective
To provide a solid understanding of both engineering and regulatory concerns associated with pharmaceutical water systems design, installation, commissioning, validation, operation, and preventative maintenance. The course will also provide practical knowledge of pharmaceutical water systems using examples of flaws and regulatory citations. The ultimate objective is to provide a definitive objective understanding of pharmaceutical water systems.
